FAQs

what is integrative nutrition?

Integrative Nutrition is a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. It addresses more than just the food on your plate, and includes other things that can nourish you–your relationships, sleep, stress, movement, sense of purpose–all the things that can have physical consequences on your body. We call this “primary food,” and the food on your plate is actually “secondary," and those choices are often a result of the "primary food."

how is a health coach different from a nutritionist?

Health coaches are never going to “prescribe” a diet plan for someone, or create strict guidelines for you to follow. We act as a guide to health and wellness so that you can start to navigate what works for you. We create a safe space for you to talk about your health concerns. We help you set goals and navigate lifestyle-change options, including what your doctor, nutritionist, or RD has provided for you. We focus on behavioral change and education on health topics, and we provide resources for you to work towards your goals, whether that’s help with implementing a diet plan that your physician recommended, help with learning how to cook and become efficient preparing home cooked meals, learning strategies to cope with stress, start an exercise program, or how to improve your sleep.

why do people seek health coaches?

Often, people- especially those with chronic conditions - are frustrated with their experience with the healthcare system—doctors aren’t listening to their non-acute problems or they’re throwing prescriptions at the issue. Our healthcare system is unfortunately set up in a way that doesn’t allow health care practitioners enough time with a patient to really understand their health needs in a comprehensive way. Health coaches can help you connect the dots of how a certain area of your life may be causing less than optimal health. For example, someone might feel ashamed of the weight they’ve put on because of stress or poor eating habits, and that shame is permeating into other areas of their mental and physical health. This can be the catalyst for that person to seek the help of a health coach who will take the time to explore this in depth, and help them break the vicious cycle.

i’ve tried many diets and plans and nothing has worked. i’m very confused about what’s best for me. can a health coach help me?

Health coaches know how to guide questions to help you connect the dots. We give you tangible, step-by-step tips to help alleviate a problem that might not seem directly related to another issue. Oftentimes, when you’re so wrapped up in your day-to-day routine, it’s harder to see simple solutions to problems you’ve been dealing with for a long time.

Health coaches co-create a plan based on YOUR ideas, interests, and experiences.
